LG Electronics will supply a total of 1,000 liquid crystal display (LCD) monitors and 230 plasma display panel (PDP) TVs by the end of next year, which will be installed on the local subway cars in Nanjing, China.
The Korean electronics maker said on Tuesday (June 7) that its PDP products have passed the quality and performance tests of the Nanjing underground railway authority. The company added that it has already finished installing some 100 LCD monitors on the subway.
Under the contract, 230 of 42-inch PDP TVs will be part of the products scheduled for installaion.
LG anticipates the installation will boost the level of its brand recognition in the Chinese city. Last year, the company has supplied 100 LCD televisions to China's biggest private-owned TV broadcasting firm, Shanghai Media Group.
In 2003, LG set up PDP module assembly lines with an annual production capacity of 240,000 sheets in Nanjing. It also expanded its digital TV production facilities in Shenyang. The company commanded the largest 10.2 percent share in the premium TV segment of the Chinese television market last year. Premium televisions include PDP, LCD and projection TVs.
